From CedarLUG - The Cedar Valley Linux Users Group
With Woot!'s recent blast-out of the Viewsonic gTablet, quite a few of us here around the Cedar Valley have found ourselves with a brand new Google Android-based tablet.
The draw of this particular unit is the ability to customize it in many ways. This article describes a way to convert your gTablet Android system into an arguably more robust computing device through upgrading the default interface through the process known as "installing a new ROM."
The procedure below assumes an "only-Linux" environment which is a reflection of my experience. You can be assured that the procedure is very straight forward. Even so, you can (and I have) significantly brick your gTablet. But even an extremely-borked gTablet has the potential to be resurrected to full life once again using the nvflash utility. Just e-mail the list. If I've bricked a gTablet and was able to bring it back to life, chances are others on the list in possession of gTablet have done the same.
Just like clockwork...
